Modify ‘time-wasting’ to get more done


Not having enough time may be down to ‘real stopwatch pressure’, or the unnecessary pressure you are putting on yourself. Either way, most of us feel busier than we objectively are, however, that doesn’t mean we don’t feel the stress, anxiety and resentment that comes with the sensation of not having enough time to do what we want and need to do.

 

Modify by buying yourself some time:

Be an essentialist – learn to say no to the stuff you don’t really want/need to do. Try to live by design, not default.

Do what is important and urgent first, then what is important and non-urgent, then delegate/defer the rest.

Be more mindful and stay in the present. Mind wandering is the enemy of saving time.

Make every second count by sharpening your focus - declutter your environment, turn off your phone and make sure you aren’t distracted by physiological things like hunger or thirst.

Beware time-wasting activities like procrastination, instead empower your language/thinking with ‘I choose to…, rather than I should/must…’

Spend as much time as possible enjoying what you are doing. Science shows this helps you at least feel like you have more free time.
